Economic Prosperity

We currently have an economy in which Wall Street is doing great while average citizens struggling to survive.  We need an economy that provides for all Americans.

The current minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is insufficient for a person to provide for themselves or their family. With 51% of workers in this country making less than $30,000 a year it's well past time to raise the minimum wage; there is a national movement fighting to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour; I support them in their efforts raise the minimum wage over the course of several years with an annual adjustment thereafter.

The USA is one of the wealthiest countries the world, yet is one of the few who do not provide paid leave policies for new mothers.  Returning to work so soon is often detrimental to both the mother and the infant. I support legislation that would provide paid maternity leave to Utah mothers.

In 2008 the deregulation of the banking industry led The Great Recession.  The banks gambled with the investments of everyday citizens, and were subsequently bailed out by your tax dollars.  I would support reinstating the Glass-Steagall act, or similar legislation.  We should also hold banking institutions and their executives accountable when they commit fraud.
